For skin to be beautiful it must be clean and healthy. Anyone
can achieve glowing, healthy skin if they understand the requirements of
their own skin and treats it gently and with care. The skin needs to be
nourished from the outside with skin creams and moisturizers, and from the
inside with a healthy diet.
Top tips for successful skin health.
Skin consists of three layers - the outer layer called the
epidermis, the dermis where all the glands and blood vessels are, and the
hypoderm which acts as a cushion between the dermis and the muscles below.
However, its a gland in the dermis that contributes
the most to having healthy
looking skin. The sebaceous glands secrete sebum - the skins own natural
moisturizer.
A perfectly healthful skin occurs when sebum is secreted in
exactly the right proportion. The skin will then be soft, supple and
fine-textured. It will be smooth, blemish free, rose-tinted and translucent.
Skin that is perfectly healthy is a rare phenomenon, but fortunately a lot can
be done to improve an imperfect one.
DO eat lots of fresh fruit and
vegetables and drink lots of water - at least 4 pints every day.
DO start caring for your skin
with a twice-daily cleansing, toning and moisturizing program as early as
possible.
DO NOT smoke or drink alcohol
excessively - it clogs the pores in the skin, leading to an unhealthy looking
oily skin complexion.
DO NOT overexpose the skin to
heat (the sun), or cold (ice and snow) - it can lead to dry skin and premature
aging of the skin.
By following these few simple rules, your skin will soon take
on a healthy glow and help you to avoid many of the skin problems that may come
along in later years. Your skin is a living organ and will reflect a healthy
lifestyle and diet.
